Introducing DJ Rugrat

PrintReport Tweet This Share on facebook Share

Dj Rugrat emerges onto the constantly spinning disc jockey scene like a respected, distinguished “all playing been everywhere” flawless, veteran. Set apart from many of his mixing peers having diversified to most (if not all) genres, throughout his decade long career Rugrat has always been at the cutting edge of his generations music scene.

Starting at the tender age of just fourteen with a high school garage group, he was given the name Rugrat for his quirky cut ups, cross genre mixing and his enthusiasm for the mix. From then on, throughout the rest of
his education, all the way to attaining his degree – Rugrat mixed, hyped and promoted. By now he had already found some admirers among the huge clubbing community and he was soon mixing it up in some of the countries most recognised venues including, Scala, Sound, Penthouse, Rainforest, Zoo, Opus, Funky Buddha, Aquarium and M2 to name just a few. Upon finishing his studies in Manchester – where he had become a widely known, well respected DJ, he moved back to his home turf in London and set about creating mix cd’s that he knew would give the modern party-goer, the classic clubber and the retro raver an essential, diverse and eclectic mix.

Rugrat places emphasis on crowd emotion – working to play and mix music that enhances the journey of the modern day nightclub experience. His experience gives him vital hard earned qualities that allow him to make key decisions with astute reasoning. Rugrat has played alongside some of the UK’s finest acts, including EZ, Donaeo, Wiley, Kano, Taio Cruz, Swerve, Trever Nelson, Jay Sean, Chipmunk and Tim Westwood. His diversity is quite apparent when names such as Natty, Babyshambles, Guru Josh Project, Mobb Deep, Sisqo and Kelly Rowland, are added to what is an ever-growing list.

Rugrat has received notable appreciation from the wider community as a whole for his on going work with the organisation Love Music Hate Racism. Having worked with them from the early beginnings Rugrat has travelled the country in promoting and highlighting the cause of an organisation he holds dear to his heart.

Winning the 2006 KISS 100 DJ competition for the UK’s best up and coming DJ was a huge achievement and further propelled a career which by now had taken itself from not just the club, party and rave scene but also into the radio broadcasting studios of Phatbeats, Manic FM and the widely followed Westside Radio.

Recently, Rugrat has been busy DJing at a variety of high-profile events. He performed internationally at De Jam Festival in Antigua - a music lover's heaven with a host of acclaimed DJs. Rugrat impressed the crowd and the organisers so much so, he has been asked to perform in next year's line up. He hosted the main stage at Astonbury - Birmingham's biggest festival, DJing alongside some of the biggest acts around at the 13 hour open-air event. He was also part of Europe's biggest carnival - Notting Hill Carnival. This event attracts over a million people over the two day event and Rugrat was an important feature of the carnival, contributing to the massive success of the event and entertaining the festival revellers.

Rugrat continues his work with LMHR, has currently taken a break from radio, still drops the finest mix cd’s in the land and can still be found headlining in London’s top clubs.
