Introducing Kimeli
Kimeli started writing lyrics at the young age of 10 and that's when the coy girl broke out of her diamanté coated shell flaunting her art at any given opportunity. Kimeli was moulded into the artist she is today by the wide variety of music she has been exposed to in her life time. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Kimeli grew up listening to all types of music. Even being driven to school her dad's car play lists included the likes of 'Hound Dog' by Elvis Presley and 'I'm a believer' by Neil Diamond. On returning home Kimeli's mother's record player would be serving up anything from Shirley Bassey to Ghulam Ali and her sister clung firmly to her roots with the old school Bollywood numbers.
Her move to London further exposed Kimeli to new forms of musical expressions and she soon got involved in exploring her talents. Firstly, by joining the highly acclaimed Sylvia Young Theatre School where her tutors were forced to stop in their tracks after being privy to Kimeli's soulful rendition of 'Killing Me Softly'. That's when Kimeli knew that singing was no longer just a childhood friend but now also her life long career choice. It was also at that point, surrounded by a theatre school full of talented singers and dancers, that Kimeli came to the realisation
that she had to STAND OUT.
Kimeli consulted her father about this and within a week she was on a plane to Johannesburg, South Africa. It was here where she recorded her début album. This was her way of STANDING OUT from the other stars in the sky, her own creation which nobody else has.
Once in South Africa she was greeted by Zain Bhikha, a South African singer, a songwriter and a successful business man. He opened the doors to Kimeli's creation by introducing her to DJ JAZZY D & BIG BOY of BROWN SUGA ENTERTAINMENT. Working with these producers brought Kimeli's music to life, literally! It was during studio recording sessions that DJ JAZZY D decided he wanted to play one of Kimeli's album songs 'Karma Karma' on a radio show he hosted on Joburg's Number 1 Hit Music station 94.7 Highveld Stereo. In spite of the track not being mixed or mastered it received phenomenal feedback with over 250,000 listeners contacting the station within an hour of airplay. Kimeli was elated, sure of her capabilities and motivated more than ever before.
Now the starry skies are the limit for Kimeli. With God as her motivator Kimeli is now ready to shake up the industry with a glitterific storm. There is no end. To Be Continued...
