Jay Sean fever hit the capital this afternoon, as unprecedented numbers of fans turned up at Trafalgar Square to catch a glimpse of the pop and RnB sensation.

The star had planned to make a surprise appearance on the Zee TV Stage at the Diwali celebrations, but was informed an hour before his scheduled visit that it had to be cancelled due to security concerns. The decision to cancel Jay's appearance was taken by the organisers, following a massive surge of tweets and facebook messages about the visit from excited fans.

Jay Sean, who is in London for a flying visit to promote his latest hit single 2012 said: This was such a great opportunity for me to meet my fans before I fly back to the States, and Diwali was the perfect opportunity for us to say thanks for all their support. I’m really sorry to have disappointed my fans, but I also have to consider and pay due respect to the organisers, who must put the safety of the visitors first.
