Remember when The Kumars at No. 42 was a household name? Remember when comedy sketch show Goodness Gracious Me’s Panjabi Girl became just as big as pop group Aqua’s Barbie Girl? Remember when Craig David and even the likes of Missy Elliot and Timbaland jumped onto the desi flavour bandwagon, and started stirring up a little Indian spice in their music? Ah yeah, back then brown was the new black... and you know how it is right? Old trends always somehow manage to come back around and it seems that’s exactly what’s happening all over again!

British badboy of grime, Skepta recently collaborated with that small little fella who’s recently gone international, Chipmunk, on a track that instantly caught the attention of probably every Asian out
there. Yep, it seems that these two well-established rappers want a little bit of spice in their lives, and they’re looking “for an Asian girl tonight”. Asian Girl, taken from Skepta and DJ Whoo Kidd’s latest FREE mixtape, Community Payback, talks about the search for a sexy Asian lady, with a few desi-isms thrown in for good measure e.g. “I’m looking for an Asian Girl wearing a sari” and (this has got to be our favourite!), Yo Jasmin, pass me the car key, let’s go back to my house right now and have a mehndi party.

But hang on a minute; something doesn’t seem quite right... Surely, no-one can know Asian girls as well as Asian guys know Asian girls, right? And no-one knows Asian girls as well as that talented one-man-army who is the perfect Asian ladies man, right?

Right! In comes Shizzio (he’s that guy), putting his perspective on a track that, let’s face it, was pretty much made for him to re-fix. Yeah, Asian Girl, Skepta ft. Chipmunk (SHIZZIO REFIX), is pretty damn sick, and Shizzio definitely puts his stamp on it, as he’s done many times through past refixes including Amp’d up (his refix of Imran Khan’s Amplifier, which everyone must have heard by now!). And guess what? He’s released the refix on his new mixtape, The Scrapbook, alongside another 21 banging tracks.
