Last weekend, UK Asian rapper, Shizzio spoke at TEDx, at Oxbridge. Have no idea? TEDx is a programme designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue by sharing their local level experiences.

Introduced as a rapper from East London there was bound to be at least a handful of people in the room, which included Oxbridge’s finest, to suddenly have negative stereotypes emerging in their heads. However, it’s fair to say that Shizzio would have shocked those who did jump to conclusions and most definitely delighted the rest.

He may have regarded himself as simply being a bag of nerves at the beginning of the speech, but nerves were the last thing we heard during Shizzio’s enlightening talk. He told listeners about life as a first generation British Muslim and this was only something that could be appreciated as laughter filled the hall. Full of enthusiasm and passion, Shizzio most definitely had the crowd, especially when he broke into a rap – he just couldn’t help himself!

As a rapper from the UK Asian music scene, he is simply a figure we can only respect for being such a huge inspiration to so many. Initially he presumed TED was a person rather than a project, well Shizzio, if he was, Desi-Box is most definitely sure he would be proud!
