Botown: Roop Tera

The debut single Roop Tera from exciting new Bollywood-Soul fusion band, Botown, is out on Thursday 30th September.

The single, which will feature on the band’s first album entitled The Soul of Bollywood, is a re-working of the SD Burman classic Roop Tera Mastana from Aradhana (Worship), the 1969 Bollywood film classic directed by Shakti Samanta, starring Sharmila Tagore, the ‘Maharani of Bollywood’ and Rajesh Khanna. The new version gives the track a ‘groovy’ Ray Charles twist.

This innovative and dynamic nine-piece live band brings a fresh and vibrant approach to traditional Indian film classics. Each of the band members are masters of soul, blues, jazz and reggae, adding a unique and funky feel to Bollywood favourites; old and new!

Band front-man, Ajay Srivastava says of the debut single: Botown is ready to bring a whole ‘lotta soul to the Asian Community! We’ve got a completely new sound that’s a funky masala mix of Bollywood melodies and Soul grooves. We’re committed to performing live and this single, like the forthcoming album, is the sound and energy of a live band getting down!

Having been a key player in the ‘underground’ British Asian music scene in the late nineties, where he produced the Swaraj album and club nights for Acid Jazz Records, Srivastava then went on to have International success with his debut solo album Kasam Se in 2006. He has also performed with the Bollywood ‘giant’ Shah Rukh Khan in Frankfurt in 2005.

Formed in 2009, Botown has spent the past couple of years taking their truly exceptional ‘live’ experience to the masses, performing at sell-out gigs at prestigious venues, including Jazz Café and Watermans Theatre. Now signed to EGEA/Alternate Music Distribution, Botown will be able to bring the Soul of Bollywood and the band’s refreshing sound to homes across the country.

Roop Tera is available to purchase from iTunes, Amazon & Emusic. The band’s forthcoming debut album, The Soul of Bollywood, will be released on 27th November 2010.
