Desi-Box caught up with Manchester based producer Gorilla Chilla to talk about his brand new debut album entitled Music In My Blood featuring Young Twist, Ziggy from Bonafide, Billa Sahota and a host of fresh new talent.

DB: Welcome to Desi-Box Mr Gorilla Chilla. How are you and what have you been up to lately?

Gorilla Chilla:
Hi and thanks to everyone having me at Desi Box, i'm doing good, I have been busy in the studios working hard with loads of projects and also doing short film songs , djing all over the country and shows and events.

DB: So, right now, this is a very exciting time for you as you’ve just released your debut album, ‘Music In My Blood’. How are you feeling about the release and what kind of response have you had so far?

Gorilla Chilla:
This is the happiest moment I have been waiting for, the response has been tremendous from all the listeners and fans, I get to get my 1st album out after working for the last 10 years on other peoples stuff, so i'm really happy now its out.

DB: You’ve been in the music scene for YEARS now... Why did the album take such a long time coming? Do you think now was the right time for you to release it?

Gorilla Chilla:
You ask any producer, they will say the same thing, its hard when you are a producer, your time is limited for your own stuff, as there is so many artists to work on, and going back and fourth on your own stuff can take a while, I work alone and take my time on any music and projects I do, so right now I think it was the best time to release just before summer when all the party and mela season starts.

DB: Your latest single is ‘Sohni Nhen’ featuring Billa Sahota. Can you tell us a bit about the background to the song, how it came about and why you chose this to be the first release from the album?

Gorilla Chilla:
Sohni Nhen idea came from the club scene djing, I always do on regular party's at weddings and clubs, we have our own road show and I thought we needed a club banger, and this was the first single also featuring Manchester 19 year old rapper Young Twist and vocals from Billa Sohota a big house hold name in bhangra music, the song was also written by the late dev Raj Jassal, we were very lucky to get the song written by him and was such an honor to meet him, he well be dearly missed.

DB: What other exciting collaborations are there on the album?

Gorilla Chilla:
The album has many types of styles and genres fused up, collabs from Manchester upcoming singer VJ watch out for him hes bad!!, we have Ziggy from Bonafide on a couple tunes, Cheshire Cat, Hunterz, Nasir Khan, UK Shox, Amarjit Amar, Iffi k, Shak Illmatik, female bollywood singer Noor-al Lain, and many many more, the album is mixed from bollywood, to arabic, bhangra something special for everyone to like.

DB: How would you describe your album in 3 words?

Gorilla Chilla:
imaginative, productive and full of fun!

DB: Music is definitely in your blood, as you do everything; you’re a musician, a producer, a lyricist, a DJ, engineer, singer, beat boxer, rapper, instrumentalist and song-writer! If you had to choose one of these routes as the one thing you enjoy doing the most, what would it be and why?

Gorilla Chilla:
I love every single one of those because, there is something for me to do in music if one of them was not working for me, but most challenging if I was to chose one for my route of all, it is producing I spent half my life learning and watching other producers do it, I have studied books, studied at college and the rest came from that, so I respect producing the most and it is in demand at all times for me!

DB: Who would your ideal musical collaboration be with and why?

Gorilla Chilla:
Michael Jackson (RIP), Mohammed Rafi Saab, the man with the golden voice, Ustad Nusrath Fateh Ali Khan, and also I would love to work with AR Rahman the man is a genius and a inspiration to me!

DB: Most of the Asian Music industry hails from down south, but you’re a fellow northerner hailing from Manchester. Who would you say, apart from yourself, is someone to watch out for from Manchester?

Gorilla Chilla:
Watch out for young twist, he's got some hot stuff coming on his debut album the will ready to blow some speakers off! also punjabi singer VJ the man is blessed with a wonderful voice.

DB: What is your favorite song of the moment and why?

Gorilla Chilla:
'Billy Jean' Michael Jackson, that song lit up the neighborhood in the 80s and people trying to do the moonwalk lol not one artist can do what MJ did.

DB: Finally, is there a message you’d like to send out to all your supporters via Desi-Box.com?

Gorilla Chilla:
I would like to say thank you to all my lovely patient fans who waited, my family and friends who helped me through me staff, record label we got alot of new stuff coming out shortly thank you once again peace.
