Interview with Roach Killa

PrintReport Tweet This Share on facebook Share

Little is known about this artist but then again they say the best secrets are those that are kept unknown. The industries best kept secret, mixing his talent like a tornado into two different types of music so naturally.

This unique yet deep lyrical artist hails from Canada but still holds his Libyan roots close to his heart. After being involved in numerous smash hit tracks, He releases his debut album "The Revolution".

I hear he has already created a so called revolution within the industry with his debut single "Yaara Dildara".We at Desi-Box have had the privilege to interview none other than Roach Killa!

So once again handing you over to the amazing Asim Syed from the Desi-Box team.

01. Asim DB: First of all Roach Killa or should i say Mr Roach Killa, I must say it’s a plesure to have such a talent blessing us at www.desi-box.com and How you doing today?

Roach Killa:
I’m doing great - thank you for having me although im still looking for the sun (laughs).

02. Asim DB: - For all the people out there who have been either hiding under a rock or just been vanished from the face of the earth, could you just give a little intro?

Roach Killa:
Roach killa is the name and music is the game, I’m a reggae artist with a twist of hip-hop born in, raised in Libya for 10 years and then moving to Toronto, Canada where I started my music career.

03. Asim DB: One question from myself, somthing i've been wondering from the moment I heard your name on the scene. What does Roach Killa mean? and what made you choose this unique name?

Roach Killa:
Roach was a name given to me by my friends at a young age so it was my music identity and killa because everytime I touched the MIC mans used to say Killa so I put both the names together to make a strong name ROACH KILLA because once you hear it you cant forget it.

04. Asim DB: You have been on the scene for a while now, making loads of your fans wanting more of the R.Killa effect. How long did it take you to complete the album? and Why the delay?

Roach Killa:
Everything in life has its time, it didn’t take long to create the album but what I wanted to do was the ground work first. You can’t just come on the scene drop a track and hope to do well, you have to put your work in, so in the past few years I have been doing selective features such as Miss Pooja, Rishi Rich, H-Dhami, DCS- SHIN and Surinder Rattan to create that buzz so when the album does approach, you feel that connection with the artist.

06. Asim DB: The new album is called "The Revolution", what made you choose such a name for the album? Is it something that you see day to day basis or just feel a change coming along?

Roach Killa:
I wanted to create a strong album with different types of music but from one artist so therefore the album needed a strong name. The Revolution means that its time for us to create a wave of good music good artists and make people understand that an aritst makes music for the people to enjoy so its only fair that they get the support they deserve.

07. Asim DB: How was it working with the well-known producer Surinder Rattan? and how did you meet him?

Roach Killa: Surinder Rattan
is a legend and for those who don’t know, you better ask somebody. Surinder actually heard one of my songs on BBC Radio and I guess he was intrigued so he contacted me to see if we can set something up. I came to the UK to do a few gigs and we met in Peterborough at a gig for the first time. Surinder took me under his wing, signed me up to his label Big Drama Entertainment and since then Manchester has been my home away from home.

08. Asim DB: Moviebox recently released Miss Pooja's album called "Romantic Jatt". You featured on the remix version on the track "Romantic Jatt" mixed by Tigerstyle, How did you team up with Tigerstyle? and are you working on other materials with them?

Roach Killa:
I was approached by my label Moviebox to bless the track for Miss Pooja and was being produced by Tigerstyle, It was a great honor to be working with such great talented artist and producers an offer not many can refuse. I have worked with Tigerstyle on the upcoming Gunjan Album so should be good.

09. Asim DB: Another big collaboration you did with one of UK's hottest talents H-Dhami for his debut album. The track was called "Akh Lad Gaye", which I got to say was a big dance floor tune and rocked everywhere. How did you team up with H-Dhami & Rishi Rich for this track? and didn’t you feel worried teaming up with a new artist who wasn't known at all? Or was the fact that Rishi Rich name was behind everything a comforting factor?

Roach Killa:
I don’t do track because the artist is famous, I do songs that I can listen to years from now and still feel like we did a good job. Me and Rishi have been friends for a long time and we thought that the Roach killa touch would suit the song and with H-Dhami’s smooth vocals it was a wrap.

10. Asim DB: A lot of us people have been hearing your lyric attack alongside Blitzkrieg's murderous rhymes & also heard both of you with Parichay, who recently released his own album. How did you get involved with Blitzkrieg & Parichay? & are we going to hear more from all of you?

Roach Killa:
I represent my home town of Toronto to the fullest. We have great talent out here and we want to show case it, Blitz and Parichay are good friends and we always doing crazy stuff so for show you will see more stuff.

11. Asim DB: When you made "Yaara Dildara" did you think it would have been such a hit all over the world? Defiantly a hit on Southall Broadway (laughs). You won't believe how many people I heard just blasting this and cruising up and down.

Roach Killa:
When I was making the song I wasn’t even thinking about the turn out, I was just pouring my heart out but the response was so overwhelming, it just feels great that the music we create can touch all types of people which is a blessing.

12. Asim DB: Before I do my special shooting star round with you I thought I ask you another question as I have been told many times that he should be an actor. Don't be worried its nothing bad (laughs). If you was in a bollywood/hollywood movie, who would you choose as your leading lady?

One from bollywood & One from Hollywood.

Roach Killa:
LOL thought you would never ask lets see hmmm, Bollywood would be Katrina Kaif and Hollywood would be Halle Berry.

Asim DB:
Damn Katrina Kaif! Don’t need to say anymore (laughs). You might have to find someone else because I’m getting there before you (ha-ha).

Asim DB: RK, I thought i give you a break from the questions and do our shooting star round with you.

Just going you ask you things and you just have to answer it. You look a bit nervous, Sounds easy doesn't it (laughs) but don't worry there not that easy. You can say pass to the questions you do not want to answer.

Roach Killa: The track was inspired by a true love story and I wanted to deliver the emotion so I needed strong vocals to capture the moment and I think Shahid Ali Khan who was a student of the Great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan did beyond the expectatoins. As for why it took so long, like I said everything in life has its time you can’t rush it, so, the video compliments the song well and we have been gettting a great response so I would like to thank everyone for the support.

15. Asim DB: I have an ear for certain lines and certain words that touch the heart. From the first time I heard "Yaara Dildara", the first few lines just hit me in the heart and first thing I thought was wow this guy has some deep lyrics. Was that somthing in your life? Or is that a message to everyone who hears the track? The lines are as follows:

"The moment affects me, the moment upsets me, for all the things i ever done wrong she left me"

Roach Killa: It’s a true story and when you speak the truth it hurts. So I think everyone who has been in love can relate to what im saying.

Asim DB: Defiantly the lyrics hit you deep in the heart especially if you can relate to them, I must say when I first heard it I related to it like most people in the world.

16. Asim DB: Where Does Roach Killa get his influences from? Is it day to day life or the situations all around the world? Is it simply just straight from the heart?

Roach Killa:
Some days it’s what I’m around, some days from the heart, some days imagination, that’s what an artist is, we paint scenarios.

17. Asim DB: The Revolution has so many various types of tracks and screams that RK is such a talented artist. What out of all the tracks has to be your favourite as in the msot closest to your heart?

Roach Killa:
Every track has a meaning to it, I have a track dedicated to my mother who has supported me all my life which means the world to me, and Revolution which is the album track, I feel describes me as a complete artist.

Asim DB: Must say the track “Meri Maa”, touches your soul. I felt that hard.

18. Asim DB: What is Roach Killa up to at the moment? New tracks? Working with others? Or just promoting the album?
