Interview with Sonu Sood
Desi-Box interviews former model and an Indian actor who has acted in Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telegu films. His character as Lucky Singh (Singh is King), Prem Ajmera (Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi)
and Chedi Singh (Dabangg) has won the hearts of millions.
DB: Firstly congratulations on your recent success as Chedi Singh in Dabangg. Has the success of the film made you vary of the choices you make today?
Sonu Sood: Thank you so much. Although Salman Khan is the reason behind the success of the film. Supriya, I follow my instinct, but it is paramount that the story or the script I read gives me that buzz. It should almost compel me to do the film. You have to love what you are doing and want to be on the sets.
DB: Bbhudah Hoga Tere Baap is an AB Corp film, was it someone from the Bachchan family who approached you to do the film?
Sonu Sood: No in fact the director of Bbuddah is Puri Jagannath [two-time Nandi-Award recipient] whom I’ve worked with already in two Telegu films. Both were super hits so I had a rapport with him. About 2 years back when I was shooting for another film with him he told me that he wanted to make a film with Mr. Bachchan and me together. Finally, this film came up, Bachchan Saab liked the idea and this is how we both got on board.
DB: There are frequent comparisons made between Amitabh Bachchan and yourself in terms of your looks.
Sonu Sood: [Laughs] yes there are, I feel flattered. It’s every actors dream to work with Mr Bachchan and I’ve now worked with all of them bar Jayaji. They are all such modest and hardworking people. It’s been a pleasure sharing screen space with them all.
DB: You play Karan Malhotra in the film; tell us a little about your character and how you prepared for your role?
Sonu Sood: I play an ACP and he’s a very honest cop and has pride in what he does. He’s after the Underworld and is trying to get rid of them from the Mumbai map. Playing a good cop is a dream for any Indian actor. I did meet a few cops in Mumbai and Punjab, I mostly observed there body language and there approach to there day to day work duties. It was great playing a positive character
rather than a negative character. I hope the audiences like the transition between Chedi Singh and Karan Malhotra.
DB: How does your character and Amitji’s character come together in the film?
Sonu Sood: Now that would be telling, you’ll see once you watch the film. Wouldn’t be fair for me to give that away.
DB: I absolutely loved you as Prem Ajmera in Sooraj Barjatya’s Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi, when will we see you essay a romantic role again?
Sonu Sood: Thank you so much, that has been one of my favorites’ as well. I’d love to do another romantic film. Hopefully very soon.
DB: Whom do you most aspire to work with?
Sonu Sood: So many, I’d love to do a film with Yashji [Yash Chopra]
DB: Can you tell us something about your upcoming film Rana?
Sonu Sood: Rana is a historical action film. The film as you know stars Rajni Sir and Deepika Padukone.
