The self made, Singer/song writer ZeeKay looks set to take the music industry by storm with the release of his debut single My Moment (3^rd Myspace R&B charts) on August 11^th.

A natural performer, Zeekay is forecasted to rise to musical heights with his undeniable talent and sheer determination. In 2007 he put his economics degree on hold to pursue his aspirations as a solo artist. He soon after signed a production deal with the highly acclaimed Mr Skills creator of Big Brova's with whom he has been working on his debut album.

Desi-Box.com had the privliage to Interview the next big thing, this is ZeeKay's first Internet Interview so its a EXCLUSIVE guys! If you guys have not yet checked out his material you guys are missing out big time!
 
01. Umar DB: Hey Zeekay, how's everything going?

ZeeKay: Very well thank you. I’m going through quite a tough time but things are working out for the best.

02. Umar DB: Can you tell us a bit about the real you, what do you like to do away from music?

ZeeKay: Well most of my time is taken up by the music as the single is being released independently so I’m constantly overlooking everything. Other than that I spend the rest of my time relaxing with family and friends.

03. Umar DB: What made you want to quit your study in economics and pursue a career in music?

ZeeKay: My heart was never in it. I wanted to pursue my ambitions long before I got to university but I was under pressure to conform to my parent’s expectations. That’s why when I completed my 1st year my parents made that decision for me.

04. Umar DB: Were you always planning on going into music since a young age?

ZeeKay: Of course, ever since I was 8 years old I’ve always wanted to perform and entertain. Nothing can compare to the feeling you get when you’re on stage doing what you love the best. During my teen years I admittedly was in it for the all the wrong reasons, just like anyone else at that age.

05. Umar DB: Since what age have you been writing lyrics and how easy does such a process come to you?

ZeeKay: It completely varies personally, last year I wrote “my moment” in under 20 minutes as I felt really inspired by a recent experience. I find song writing is not something you can switch on and off. It’s a very delicate process which relies on conceptually visualising every word and combining that with a melody associated to how it feels.

06. Umar DB: Which artists do you see as your inspiration?

ZeeKay: I’m inspired by anyone who’s passionate and dedicated to music. Rishi Rich, Michael B.Cox and Sona Family for having created a huge fan base whilst touring the world completely independently.

07. Umar DB: Can you tell us how you ended up signing a production deal with Mr Skillz and how it is for you working with him?

ZeeKay: Well, it didn’t come easy that’s for sure! I actually met Mr skillz through a friend who I’d tag along whenever he went to meet him. We developed an understanding and after some time Mr skillz agreed to trial me. I demo’d a few songs and he gave them a listen on the way to a gig in the car, from then he was convinced. Few months went by and I got a call out of the blue from him and it went from there.

08. Umar DB: You've had the opportunity to actually co-write and vocally produce "Baby" for Ginuwine. For a newcomer in the industry that must have been some sort of vindication. How did this chance come about and how was it working with Ginuwine?

ZeeKay: Well I went on tour with the Ginuwine camp last year and one of the songs which was demo’ed for another producer was shown to his management. They really liked the joint and they decided to get ginuwine to re-record the song for Asian market. Unfortunately I didn’t get to personally work with him but it felt good that someone I looked up to sang my song.

09. Umar DB: Your new single "My Moment" is releasing on the 11th of August. For the people who haven't heard it yet what can they expect from the track?

ZeeKay: My Moment is an epic R&B track about reaching your goal in life and living it. It’s a song that means a lot to me as it depicts how hard its been up till now in being where I wanna be.

10. Umar DB: How does it feel after your single came third in the Myspace R&B charts?

ZeeKay: Oh that was a surprise to be honest but very rewarding for all the hard work.

11. Umar DB: How was the shooting for the video to "My Moment" like?

ZeeKay: Was lots of fun but very stressful to be honest. I don’t have some fancy record label funding anything for me so I had to work on a budget which meant I had to cut back on the extra’s and do it myself with family and friends.

12. Umar DB: Any information on your debut album? Is it still in the works and what sounds can we expect from the album? Also is it too early to state a release date?

ZeeKay: I had an album pretty much ready to put out there early this year but my management and I decided to change the whole sound. I felt I needed to try new things, make music that makes you wanna dance and feel good at the same time so expect to find some funky house / bassline joints with a sprinkle of R&B.

13. Umar DB: Can you give us a word on the tracks that are on your upcoming album, any favourites or any you think would be a hit with the fans?

ZeeKay: Watch out for “Daddy’s girl” and “Make it easy”..just to name a few

14. Umar DB: How would you describe the journey so far into your music career? Can you sum up the highs and lows you've faced and if there is anything you would have done differently?

ZeeKay: Its been so up and down its been crazy. I would have definitely come out sooner but I’m glad I’ve spaced things out and come out at a time where my outlook on life has matured.

15. Umar DB: What can we expect from Zeekay in the coming years, have you given where you want to see yourself say in ten years time a real thought?

ZeeKay: I havn’t thought as far as 10 years time but I’d like to go platinum or diamond lol
