Prime Minister Gordon Brown has sent a personal message to the World Foods Association to show his support and commend the World Food Awards.

In his message PM Gordon Brown states: “The world food sector makes a significant contribution to the social, cultural and economic success of our diverse society which is reflected in all the restaurants, shops and supermarket shelves across the country.

“I welcome the contribution that the World Foods Association and these awards make to recognising those that have pioneered and innovated in this important industry.”

A spokesperson for the World Foods Awards said: “World food is one of  the fastest growing industries in Britain and we are working hard to shift its corner shop persona, so to have Gordon Brown send a personal message commending the World Food Awards is extremely valuable and an absolute honour.”

The World Food Awards are being held on Saturday 31st October at London’s Park Lane Hilton. Ex-Atomic Kitten, Natasha Hamilton and classic pop sensations The Real Thing will be performing live, with TV  personality Simone Bienne hosting.

Nominees include Tesco and ASDA in the Best National Retailer category and Levi Root's Reggae Reggae Sauce, of Dragon’s Den fame, for Best New Product, while world food industry veterans Meena and Kirit Pathak OBE and Sir Gulam Noon MBE will be recognised for their achievements.
