Whitechapel Gallery Café Presents Where Three Dreams Cross

To celebrate, Where Three Dreams Cross, the groundbreaking photography exhibition currently on display at The Whitechapel Gallery, the Gallery are pleased to announce the continuation of their live entertainment showcases.

Presented by the Gallery’s 16-24 year old curators, LIFETIME, the line-up will be a celebration of local talent including artists, musicians, MCs and poets chosen to reflect the rich cultural diversity of Whitechapel.  The events are free entry and under 18s are welcome. Doors open at 7pm and the events finish at 8.30pm.

A Night in Three Villages on Thursday 18th March is the group’s response to the current exhibition and the live acts have been selected to echo local traditions in music, dance, poetry from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The evening will see a fusion of traditional Bengali Baul singing with a response in movement by  Indian traditional folk dancer Kakoli. Alongside will be a recital of traditional Bengali Tagore poetry.

Where’s Your Folk? on Friday 26th March celebrates folk traditions in contemporary culture with dancers, musicians and MCs mixing rhythms from across the world. The acts have been selected to reflect the cultural diversity of the LIFETIME group and the event will see acts inspired by both Turkish and Brazilain traditions. Acts confirmed to appear include Takilo and XXX from the Internationqal Dance and Music centre. The evening will include a chance for attendee’s to try traditional Turkish folk dancing.

Free Entry, Under 18s welcome. The event will end at 8.30pm and will have a bar offering non-alcoholic drinks/snacks.

Where’s your folk - Friday 26th March from tpm – 8.30pm
Free Entry, Under 18s welcome. The event will have a full bar and ID will be required to purchase alcoholic drinks.
